Before your clearance
How much does a house clearance cost in Diss?
It depends on the size of the property, how full it is, access, and what needs special disposal. Items with resale value can bring the cost down. You get a quote before booking.
How quickly can a house be cleared?
Most houses take one to two days once booked. Tell us if you have a deadline, such as a sale or tenancy date.
What happens to the items?
Items are sorted for resale, charity and recycling where possible. What cannot be reused or recycled goes for disposal.
What happens to personal papers or valuables found during the clear?
They should be put aside and returned to you. Agree this with the clearance firm before the day.
Can a house be cleared after a death?
Yes. Many clearances follow a bereavement. See the probate and bereavement page.
How do I know my waste is handled legally?
Ask for the waste carrier registration number and check it on the public register. Our waste carrier checks page explains how.
What information helps with a Diss house clearance quote?
Give the full postcode, property type, rooms, approximate contents, stairs, parking, outbuildings and anything that must stay. Mention unusual or heavy items separately.
Full house clearance
How long does a full house clearance take?
Most houses take one to two days, depending on size, how full they are and access.
Do I need to be there?
Not necessarily. Many clearances happen while relatives live away. Ask the clearance firm whether they can collect keys and send updates.
Probate and bereavement
Do we need probate before clearing the house?
Not always, but executors often wait until they have authority to deal with the estate. If unsure, ask the solicitor handling the estate. This is not legal advice.
Can family take items first?
Yes. We recommend family remove or mark everything they want before the clearance day.
Landlord clearance
Can the clearance be arranged through my letting agent?
Usually. Access and photos of the empty property can often be arranged with you or your agent. Confirm this when you get a quote.
Garage, shed and loft
Can old paint and chemicals be taken?
Tell us what there is. Some can be taken, some need a separate disposal route, and you will be told before the day.
Downsizing and care moves
Can the clearance happen after the move?
Yes. Many families arrange the clearance once their relative has settled in their new home.
